Obituary of Steven D. Corey

Steven Dwight Corey "Steve", 67, of Cherryfield passed away quietly on December 28, 2023 with his wife Ruby and daughter Candace by his side after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

 

Steven was born in Westfield, MA to Thadeus R. Corey and Dorene W. (Stache) Corey. He went to Hampshire High School and graduated in 1974.

 

After high school, he joined the U.S. Army Counterintelligence Command receiving the Army Commendation medal.

 

Steven then owned a landscaping business for many years for which he took great pride in creating beauty. He then worked as store manager at Crossroads ACE Hardware in Columbia, ME for many years.

 

Steven was a member of the Downeast Salmon Federation in Columbia, ME, and was one of the founders of Sunrise County Beagle Club in Deblois. ME. Steven had a passion for salmon fishing and enjoyed his yearly visits to the Miramichi River in Canada with friends. He also had a passion for beagles and field trials traveling all over Maine and as far as Vermont to attend.

 

Steven also enjoyed spending quality time with his family at home, Mopang Lake or wherever it may have been. He also enjoyed fishing with his wife, Ruby on weekends, gardening both organic vegetables and strawberries, camping, and watching the Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Steelers.

 

He is survived by his wife, Ruby (Hawkes) Corey of Cherryfield, ME. Sister-in-law Terry Hawkes of Cherryfield, ME. Sister-in-law Silvia Sayers and husband Martin Rubenstein of Rockport, ME. Son Christopher Stanley and his wife Tamara of Waterboro, ME. Daughter Candace Sylvain and her husband Thomas of Orono, ME. His mother, Dorene Corey of Poland, ME. Brother David Corey and his wife Jodi of Southampton, MA. Sister Cynthia Nadeau of Topeka, KS. Sister Alison Smith of Poland, ME. Brother Todd Corey of Poland, ME. Grandchildren Brianna Kelley and her husband Connor of Steuben, ME. Brittany Flaherty and significant other Kaiden Demarest of Machias, ME. Jordan Sylvain, Noah Sylvain, Brayden Sylvain, Hunter Sylvain, Bryson Sylvain, Kaylee Sylvain all of Orono, ME. Madison Stanley of Waterboro, ME. Aubrey Stanley of Waterboro, ME. Brody Stanley of Waterboro, ME. Emmitt Stanley of Waterboro, ME. Many nieces and nephews.

 

Steven was predeceased by his father Thadeus Corey. Grandmother Gertrude Stache. Brother-in-laws Jim Smith and Doug Nadeau. Fergus, Steven's best friend, buddy, and family Wolfhound dog whom he loved dearly.

 

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Beacon Hospice of Auburn, ME.

 

There will be a celebration of life in the summer of 2024 which will be announced at a later date.
