Obituary of Philip Lynwood Farr
BROOKSVILLE – Philip L. Farr, 83, of Brooksville, died on Monday, March 22, 2021, at Northern Light EMMC in Bangor after a period of declining health. Phil was born in Blue Hill, Maine, on February 14, 1938, the son of Lynwood A. and Lura A. (Austin) Farr. He was predeceased by Pat, his wife of 50 years, and daughter, Kelly Sommer.
Phil is survived by son, Shawn Duffy and his wife, Michelle, of Brooksville; grandchildren, Moriah Duffy, Sierra Duffy, and Carla Savage, of Maine; Ashley Howell of Georgia and Ryan Kocourek of Florida; great-grandchildren, Korbin, Taylor, and Lura, of Georgia; and Nira, Aiden, and Austin, of Maine; brother, James Farr, of South Berwick; sister-in-law, Pam Tobey and husband, Steve; nephews, Matthew and Todd; many other relatives and close friends.
After high school, Phil served in the Air National Guard and the Air Force. He worked for 11 years at Maine Maritime Academy and was park manager of Holbrook Island Sanctuary State Park for 33 years. While manager at Holbrook, he supervised a successful intern program for several years. In addition to maintaining park grounds and trails, Phil and the interns made and distributed hundreds of chickadee nesting boxes to school and public groups statewide. Phil was a member of the Brooksville Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years, 14 as chief. He also served as a deputy sheriff for the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department for 7 years.
Per Phil’s wishes, there will be no visiting hours. Burial of Phil and Pat’s ashes will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, his with Masonic Rites, at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pediatric Oncology Clinic Family Needs and sent to Lafayette Center, 33 Whiting Hill Rd., Brewer ME 04412 in memory of Phil and Pat Farr and Kelly Sommer.
