I had the great good fortune of working with Phil Farr in the Maine State Park Service for many years in his capacity as Park Manager of Holbrook Island Sanctuary. Phil was completely dedicated to the Sanctuary, and his many friends and connections throughout Hancock County helped him to focus the care and attention on the area that it deserved. HIS is a very special state park property, having been donated to the state by Anita Harris with a good number of terms and restrictions held in several wills and codicils. Phil knew these directives intimately, and did his best to manage the area following the vision that Miss Harris had for the property and its visitors. His work with local schools and friends groups, as well as the Holbrook Island Corporation, supported the interpretation of the area as a true nature preserve, open for public use and appreciation of a very special part of the Coast of Maine. I am honored to have known Phil and Pat for all those years, and to have been taught by them in the appreciation of all that makes Maine a very special place. Rest in peace, friend. Thank you for your dedication and service.
