Oscar Patrick “Pat” Mawhinney, 70, East Machias, April 23, 2020. Pat was born January 9, 1950 to William H. Mawhinney and Hazel Mary Lowe. Pat’s first passion was baseball, he was famous for his wicked curveball. He loved living and working in Downeast Maine. He especially enjoyed milling and building log homes with his brothers Joseph and Robert Mawhinney. He also owned and operated Maine Wreathes, Inc. in Jonesboro. He was grateful to have the opportunity to employ many people from the community. Pat’s greatest love was being a father, even at his busiest he would make time to be with his children. In 2008 Pat was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s, he courageously fought for the past 12 years. During that time, he found peace in his relationship with the Lord. He also enjoyed spending time with his wife, watching their grandchildren grow up from his quiet home on Gardiner Lake. Pat is survived by his loving wife of 28 years Wesley Dean Mawhinney. His children Sadie Dunn and her husband John of Jonesboro, ME, Cassie Fenstermaker and her husband Neal of Fort Wayne, IN, Kathryn Parenteau of New Gloucester, ME, and Ross Mawhinney and his wife Ashley of Hancock, ME, grandchildren Kody Spencer, Justus Mawhinney, Esther Mawhinney, Lella Dunn, Joseph Dunn, Judah Mawhinney, and Joshua Dunn. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made in Pat’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association: PO Box 96011, Washington, D.C 20090 or online at https://www.alz.org. Arrangements for a celebration of Pat’s life will be made at a later date.
