Many times I fought you,
But we were always side by side.
You were a Cardinal,
I was a Hawk.
We beat you three times,
You crushed us the fourth.
We All-Starred about six wins one year,
Before Bangor knocked us out.
My dad said we could have even beaten them
If only…If only…
I saw your five hits in Campobello.
You missed my five to beat the Bears.
You became a Bulldog our Senior Year, \
And we pitched twin-one hitters against the Royals.
If only…If only…
(Amazing that it took over a half-century
To dawn on me that we were both once a “Jet.”)
You were there for me in a tough time-
But my wreathes were erratically elliptical.
So, you found something else I could do to pay my bills.
I am so sorry I wasn’t there,
When maybe I could have helped you.
I am sadly regretting not doing
That thing I always meant to do;
Play a simple sentimental game of Pass,
Like All Those Years Ago. (Thanks, George.)
If only…If only…
If anybody who reads this
Happens to ever see my friend,
Pat Mawhinney-
Be it in this world or the next-
Please tell him again

For Pat Mawhinney
(written after your funeral)
I used to say that I only had one major regret in my life.
I now have to admit, that I have two.
I wish my Dad had lived long enough to know my son.
I also wish that I had spent a LOT more time with you.
We had a treasured friendship.
We knew how much the other cared.
But now I have this aching
For the stories we never shared.
You hitch-hiked across America.
I took a Greyhound Bus.
Baseball was a passion
That lived on in each of us.
Your trophy still sits on my shelf
From fifty-eight years ago.
It was a set-up that I would win it,
And we both know it’s so.
I have always despised King David,
But loved Leonard Cohen’s song.
My logical mind does not believe,
But my heart tells my mind “You’re wrong.”
We had a treasured friendship.
We knew how much the other cared.
But now I have this aching
For the debates we never had.

To the family of "Pat"
Our deepest condolences, empathy and sympathy are heartfelt for all . We just got notice of his passing via High Head Assoc.
We met Pat in 2004 or 2005 and he was such a joyful nice guy to have met in regards to land. When we came up we met him a few times and he was always so courteous and "joyful", the spirit of God always resided in him. It was such an honor to meet him and what a wonderful father he was because he spoke of his family with great regard. Our prayers for him is to watch over all of you and bless you with a good life. It was with great sadness that we read of Pat's passing but it is comforting to know that he is in a better place now in Heaven. I'm so glad that last year he & I met at Helen's a couple of times and had some nice conversation of memories from our Jonesboro days which we both
agreed was a grace place to be raised and it held a special place in our hearts. My intention was to visit with Pat on returning to Maine but that was not meant to be however I look forward to the time when I can meet him in Heaven. Blessings to Wesley, you certainly have been a great caregiver.

My sincere condolences to Wesley, Joe, Rob, kids, grands, and all of Pat's extended family, friends, and business associates. Pat and my brother, Shawn, were friends for many, many years and some of my fondest memories of the "old days" include the 2 of them, along with other friends, music, lots of laughter, and an appreciation for the simple things in life and the company of those we held dear. As the years passed, those things remained constant for Pat, as he and Wesley began their life together and their family continued to grow. Many homes and other buildings in the area will still be recognized, far into the future, as testaments to the fine workmanship and love Pat put into creating each and every one of them. He will be missed and will never be forgotten. R.I.P., Pat.

We are so very sorry to hear of Patrick’s passing. He was always very helpful and friendly on the few occasions when we asked for help in purchasing cedar posts and other materials for our various projects. He will certainly be missed by his family and all who knew him. Our sincere condolences to his family including his brothers Joe and Rob. Sincerely, Jill Carson and Dee Boughner.

Growing up on the Look’s Point road and living next to my Mawhinney cousins was a special time in my life. Pat was a natural leader, whether organizing baseball games on the baseball field that his dad built in back of the house, cutting alders and slinging apples from the hillside or building snow forts for great snowball battles ...they all didn’t end well, but I wouldn’t have missed a minute of the fun and I’ll always cherish the memories. Pat wasn’t only a big brother to Joe and Rob, he was a big brother to me too.
