Obituary of James William Fortier

James William Fortier, 70, passed away January 10, 2025 at CMMC in Lewiston from Covid. 
Jim was born to Richard G and Lillian M (Holt) Fortier on November 09, 1954 at Central Maine
General Hospital in Lewiston. He attended schools in Norway, Oxford and was a 1973 graduate
from Hamilton High School in New Jersey. After graduation, Jim attended Mercer County
Community College in NJ. He was a resident of Bridgton for many years before becoming a
resident of Russell Park Rehabilitation and Living Center in Lewiston.
Jim was employed by Kinney Shoes in NJ, Cornwall Wood Products, JR Mains Company, Town
of Bridgton and Black Horse Tavern in Maine. 
Jim always loved the Fourth of July, it being his favorite holiday.   He was a fan of NASCAR
with a favorite driver of Dale Earnhardt Sr. He also was a country music fan and belonged to the
Johnny Cash Fan Club. He had his favorite singers Johnny Cash, Charlie Pride and Elvis
Presley.  Jim loved everything about astronomy, karaoke, cribbage and card games. 
Jim married his soul mate, Jane Susan Rowan on May 05, 2012.  With much sadness, he lost his
wife to cancer November 06, 2013.
His parents, his wife, his brother Scott, his sister Weda (Cookie) Murch and recently his
stepmother, Shirley, predecease Jim.  He is survived by his sisters Linda and her husband Ken
Avery, Becky and her husband Paul Harmon both of Bridgton, Kimmie and her husband Michael
Uhl of Hamilton, NJ, his stepsister Debbie Blackwell of Columbus, NJ and his stepson Shaun
Rowan of Kentucky.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their spouses and a
special friend Melanie Velez of Nevada.  
Jim had a love of animals –especially his cats, a great sense of humor, a quick wit and a
wonderful singing voice that will constantly bring a smile and a warm memory of the Brother,
the Uncle and the Friend that he was and will forever echo in our hearts.
A celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
