Obituary of Gertrude K. Riddell

Gertrude Riddell
May 8, 1936 – December 22, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gertrude Riddell at the Woodlands
Memory Care facility in Rockland, Maine. Born in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, on May 8, 1936,
Gertrude moved to Bar Harbor in 1948 to live with her beloved Aunt Emma Paige.

Gertrude dedicated many years to Bee's Candy on Main Street in Bar Harbor, eventually taking
over the business from her aunt. She became a well-known and cherished member of the
community, working as a store clerk at Bee's, Don's (now Hannaford), and H&H Market. Her
warm presence and friendly demeanor made her a fixture in the lives of many.

A long-standing member of the UCC Church in Bar Harbor, Gertrude's faith was an important
part of her life. She is survived by her three children, Scott Riddell, Laurie Riddell, and Tom
Riddell; six grandchildren, Catie Smith, Haleigh Smith, Hunter Riddell, Heather Riddell, Ian
Riddell, and Paige Riddell; and two great-grandchildren, Colton Riddell and Zaiden Celano.

Gertrude was predeceased by her husband in 1978 and chose not to remarry. She maintained a
lifelong connection with her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Meg and Ken Riddell. The family extends
their deepest gratitude to her son-in-law, Tim Smith, for his immeasurable support over the
years.

Gertrude's kindness, dedication, and love will be remembered by all who knew her. She will be
greatly missed.
