Obituary of Donna E. Cook
Donna Elaine Scott Cook 82 passed away peacefully at Maine General Glenridge Nursing Home in Augusta Maine on 10/23/24 after a long illness.
Donna was born in Waterville Maine on 5/29/1942 to William “Bill” Scott and Ernestine Peters Scott. She went to school in Fairfield Maine and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1960. After graduation she worked in the school office at Lawrence High School as a secretary. She later went on to work at CF Hathaway in Fairfield where she met her future husband Alden “Al” Campbell Cook. They were married on June 29th 1968.
After being a stay at home mom and raising her two daughters Heather and Allison, she went to work at Cottles grocery store( Hannaford). Then she went on to work for the Augusta School System as a teacher’s aide. She had a special connection with one of her students so much that she and AL became foster parents to her until she found stability with an aunt out of state. Donna was an amazing wife, mother, foster mother and Nana. Mom was a very caring, compassionate human being and had no bad bone in her body.
To unwind Donna enjoyed cooking ,baking, playing bingo, reading, watching the red sox, game shows and shopping. She also enjoyed spending time with family especially on holidays, and reunions. She enjoyed going out to eat and having a lobster roll or clams by the ocean.
Donna was preceded by her parents, her brother Roy Scott, her brother Michael Scott, her sister-in-law Diane Scott, brother in law Parker Cook, brother in law Paul Cook, sister in law Sue Cook.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years Al Cook, her daughter Heather Guerrette and husband Scott, her daughter Allison Cook of Kannapolis NC, her grandson William Millaway and grand-daughter Michaela Millaway of Concord NC, sister in law Esther Scott of Waterville Maine, and Joanne Cook of Watervillle Maine. She is also survived by her cat Mischief.
The family would like to thank all of the employees at Maine General Glenridge Nursing Home. Our Valley family is the best and treated mom with so much respect and love her as much as we do. To all the RN’s CNA’s, Med Techs, Debbie B social worker, Brenda charge nurse thank you for everything!! We also want to extend our thanks to the front office staff from Angel at Reception to Dr. Wang and Rebecca Sylvester NP, and Kate Director of Nurses, the activities dept for all that they do, the kitchen staff who are exceptional , laundry and maintenance personal as well. We also want to extend our thanks to Maine General Hospice for the great care they did for mom, and us too for mom’s final journey. Thank you to Theresa nurse and Amy social worker.
Memorial service is scheduled for 11/9/2024 @ 11 at Emmanuel Lutheran Episcopal Church in Augusta, burial to follow at Hallowell Cemetary. Light lunch to follow back at Emmanuel fellowship café.
