Robert Gillis III

Obituary of Robert J. Gillis III

Robert J. Gillis, Bob or "Bobby" as his family called him, was called home on October 13th, 2024 at 6:22 PM after watching one last Patriots game with his children and family by his side. Bob was born in Sewickley, PA on September 25, 1954 to Robert J Gillis Jr. and Leta Eloise Gillis. Bob was predeceased by his parents and sister Jan Gillis. Bob is survived by his sisters Nancy Gillis-Grant and Leta Gillis, his children Joshua and wife Holly Gillis of Sanford, ME, Melissa and husband Jeremy Henson of Pueblo West, CO, four grandchildren Lily Gillis, Maisie Gillis, Joshua Jurek, Juliet Henson, and many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

Bob received an associate's degree at The Culinary Institute of America and was a great chef. He worked at the Georgia Pacific Mill for many years and loved helping others as a volunteer fireman for the Calais and Alexander Fire Departments where he served for more than 20 years. Some of his fondest memories were with his firemen buddies and coaching basketball at Alexander Elementary School. Bob was also a member of the Calais Lions Club where he held many positions for the club. He also worked at the Maine Turnpike Authority as a toll booth operator until he retired to the good life!

Bob was a huge New England sports fan and loved talking sports with everyone he came across. His last day on earth was spent with his children watching and listening to the Patriots game, shaking his head at the sound of Drake Maye’s first game as QB throwing interceptions and touchdowns. Bob’s children, nephews, nieces, sisters, and cousins will forever cherish many fond memories shared at Cathance Lake, sporting events, card shows, bike trips, family vacations, basketball tournaments at the Mecca, etc.

A celebration of life will be held on a date TBD in Calais, ME.

He will be fondly remembered and forever in our hearts. Always remember, "You can get there from here". 1-4-3
