Obituary of Patricia B. Bell
"The sun will not rise or set without my notice and thanks.” — Winslow Homer
Patricia Bosworth Bell of Birch Harbor, Maine, and Holliston, Mass., passed away at the age of 94 on Oct. 13, 2024, at the home of her daughter in Wonsqueak Harbor. Born in Bristol, Vt., on Sept. 18, 1930, Patricia was the first child of Bernard Bates Bosworth and Pauline Sullivan Bosworth.
“Paddy” Bell was a keen-eyed and prolific watercolor painter (as P. Bell). Her style was realistic and peaceful. Quiet scenes, antique architecture, coastal seascapes and views of nature were among her favored subjects.
When the Boston Red Sox season ended (Paddy was an avid baseball fan), she enjoyed traveling, often accompanied by a group of her fellow artists. Her adventures included rafting down the Colorado River, touring the U.K., Florence, Reykjavik, Cartagena, Inuit Nunangat and the Galápagos Islands.
Pat was a founding member of Schoodic Arts for All, where she served as treasurer for many years. A veteran member of the Downeast Outing Club, Pat's more recent interests mostly involved her Wednesday lunch group, her cat Peppy, bird-watching, Wordle and gardening.
Pat grew up in Bristol, Vt., and met her future husband William H. Bell on their very first day at Antioch College. Bill Bell would go on to manage the Music Box Inc. on Central St. in Wellesley, Mass. While raising their four children in neighboring Holliston, Mass., Pat did volunteer work, she served as president of the Holliston Historical Society, and finally she joined Bill at the Music Box to run the office.
In 1974 the Bells purchased the "Twine House" property located in Wonsqueak Harbor. Over the years, the family renovated the old net factory and the adjoining dock while their sailboat "Kialoa" bobbed on a mooring out front. Pat and Bill retired to Wonsqueak Harbor permanently in 1996.
Pat Bell was predeceased by her husband Bill and their beloved youngest son Sam. She is survived by her brother Kirk Bosworth and two sisters Gael Stein and Polly McEwing; two sons Mark and Andy, a daughter Cathy, four grandchildren and a great-grandson. The funeral will be private.
