Edwin H. Wyman III Obituary

 

Edwin H. Wyman III passed peacefully away at his home surrounded by family on August 19, 2024.  He was 89 years old.

 

Born February 26, 1935, in Damariscotta, ME to Edwin H. Wyman Jr. and Charlene Tukey, “Teddy” graduated from Anson Academy in 1953, where he played basketball, played trumpet in the band, and performed in the senior play.  He began his post-secondary education at Tufts University, where he majored in English and joined the Delta Tau Delta fraternity.  He was drafted by the United States Army in 1958, serving his country primarily in Western Europe until earning an Honorable Discharge in 1960.

 

He began his career professional career as a Claims Adjuster for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in Boston, MA.  While working there, he met the love of his life, Mary Anita Drake.  They married on September 2, 1962, in Gardiner, ME and settled in Marblehead, MA.  He later relocated to Augusta, ME to embark on a career at Central Maine Power.  He completed his bachelor’s degree at the University of Maine at Augusta in 1976 and concluded his professional journey with the State of Maine Bureau of Insurance, retiring in 2002.

 

Teddy was a man of few words, but he was a talented painter, drawer, and trumpet player and was renowned for making the best lobster stew imaginable. Teddy also enjoyed jogging, cherished family vacations in Ocean Park, ME, but above all, he loved playing golf, especially with close friends, his son, and grandsons.

 

Teddy is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Anita Wyman; son Christopher and daughter-in-law Christina Wyman; grandchildren Drake and Edwin James Wyman; sister Betsy Rothbacher; brother Richard Wyman; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other endeared family and friends.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Maine Veterans’ Cemetery, 163 Mount Vernon Road,  Augusta, ME on 10/11/2024 at 2:00.  The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Maine Cancer Center, Hospice, and others for the compassionate care Teddy received.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Edwin’s name to MaineGeneral Hospice and Volunteers of Kennebec Valley.
