George Leach Sr.

Obituary of George Herbert Leach Sr.

Penobscot – George H. Leach Sr., 89, passed away at home on Thursday, July 5, 2024, with his loving wife and family by his side. George was born on April 14, 1935, the son of Charles W. and Belva J. Leach. George grew up in North Penobscot on the Sunset Ridge Farm, where George and his wife Linda later raised their children, George (Jr.) and Leah. He was a 1953 graduate of Bucksport High School and served in the Army as a radio repairman before going to work at the Bucksport Paper Mill, retiring from International Paper in 2000.

George enjoyed camping and traveling across the United States and Canada with his wife. George and Linda took pride in their home and kept their yard and gardens immaculate. George believed that everything had its place, and you could always find him tinkering around his home and building special unique storage areas to house his various collections including his miniature antique car collection and tools. He loved designing buildings and was especially proud of the three-bay garage he built with his 10- year-old son, Jr. and the barn he built with his brother-in-law, Richard French out of old pallets from the paper mill. He enjoyed scouring the countryside for tools and other bargains that he could add to his collection and use to create various things. George loved spending time with his daughter and son-in-law Chuck, his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and enjoyed reminiscing about the olden days. He was a history buff and spent thousands of hours reading, researching, and fact-checking.

George will be greatly missed by his wife of 65 years, Linda (French) Leach; his daughter, Leah Bishop and husband Chuck; grandchildren, Elizabeth Austin, Abrina Bishop, and Tiffany Harriman; and his great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Natalie, Madelynn, Balian, Sawyer, and Ascher. He was predeceased by his son George H. Leach Jr. and his faithful and loyal companion, his dog Casper.

A celebration of George’s life will be held for family and friends on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at George and Linda’s home in North Penobscot at 1:00 pm.
