Please share a memory of Elaine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Elaine Renee Lehmann, 86, of Rockland, Maine, died on May 31, 2024, from severe COPD. Born in Portland, Oregon, to Dr. George W. Boyer and his wife Marcella, she was raised in nine states and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of North Dakota with a B.A. degree and a Phi Beta Kappa key.

After teaching high school English, history and geography for a few years, she took time out to raise her three children. And after volunteering for years in her beloved Unitarian Universalist Churches, she was employed as Director of Religious Education in Albuquerque, N.M. and both Assistant to the Minister and secretary in Rochester, N.Y.  She later served as Ministerial Settlement Representative for the Unitarian Universalist Association and as president of congregations in Albuquerque and Lakeland, FL.  In addition she worked part time for H & R Block and the Albuquerque Public Library.

She is survived by her children Kathleen Hock of Chestertown, MD, Roberta Baumann of Rockland, ME and Christopher Baumann of Myrtle Beach, S.C.  Her grandchildren, Andrew and Adam Hock; Alexander, Patrick and Christian Gardullo; Christopher, Joshua and Laramie Baumann. She was predeceased by her dear husband David Ning, her younger brother George and her beloved cat Shadow.

Elaine particularly enjoyed friends, especially those in her two women’s groups and reading on a wide variety of topics from genetics to politics to crime novels. A one-time, avid gardener and traveller, she in later years, enjoyed being with family, her friends in Rockland and at Bartlett Woods, good food, reading and jigsaw puzzles.

The family gratefully acknowledges the extraordinary care provided by the staff at Pen Bay Medical Center and the caring support given at the Sussman House.
