Harley and his family became such an important part of our Friendship time. I have too many memories to count of this smart, kind, helpful and incredibly funny man, who I was honored to call my friend. Rest easy, Harley.

We have lost one of our most colorful, most fun to be with friends. We got to know Harley from our time at our Martin Point cottage and have called him a friend for over 50 years. The point will never be the same the same without this man, whose charismatic personality made every cocktail party a memorable event.
He used to call us Summer Pukes because we were only there in the summer. And because he was a lobsterman and had the winter off, I used to call him a Winter Puke. He loved to tease people, like when during my brother-in-law's wedding vows, he piped up from the back and said "Can't hear ya!" since it was wedding number three! The crowd erupted in laughter. That is what it was like to be around Harley - you just never knew what he would say or do net and it was always hilarious.
His sayings are legendary and he is often quoted in our household by our entire family. My husband, Doug, loved one of Harley's expressions but could never quite get it right and he would ask Harley to repeat it over and over while he mimicked him, trying to say it correctly. The saying was "I can't make you do it, but I can make you wish you had." Doug still practices this quite today! We have had more belly laughing times with this man than I can count.
Harley was also a savior and on more than one occasion he jumped into his boat to pull our boats off the rocks. I remember we had lost power on our sailboat and were headed for the rocks one time. Harley was sitting on the Pellet's deck at a cocktail party with a front row seat, watching our slow demise. We were Summer Pukes in the extreme at that point! After making several jokes about being Captain Crash, he finally put down his drink, went next door and got his boat and pulled us off the rocks! Then there was the time our power was upside down on its mooring and floated ashore under Ann Fillipi's dock. He came over, lassoed the boat and dragged it off the rocks in the middle of a gale. He was a friend who would be there no matter what. Harley was the salt of the earth. His absence in Friendship will be a void like no other. Harley, you were a true friend. Rest In Peace, my favorite rubber booted barbarian.
