Obituary of Ethylen Diane Philbrook

Ethylen “Effie” D. Philbrook (nee Stanley) passed away on May 11, 2024, at the age of 74, at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport. She was surrounded by her loving family and all who cherished her.

Ethylen was born on July 2, 1949, in Rockland, Me., to Clifford L. and Myrtle M. Stinson Stanley. She attended school in Rockland and later worked at Crowe Rope in Warren before pursuing a career as a PCA caregiver. Ethylen dedicated herself to caring for others, working at Kno-Wal-Lin Home Care & Hospice, Maple Marsh Home Care and also private duty care. Her clients admired her for her dependability, love, and compassion.

In her personal life, Ethylen was devoted and loving mother to her children and extended family. She enjoyed camping, swimming, knitting, crocheting, cooking, playing bingo, solving word puzzles, and playing games on her phone. She cherished family gatherings and time spent with friends. Ethylen was also a member of the Oddfellows Lodge in Warren.

Ethylen is survived by her son Jake (Tammy) Philbrook of Cushing, Jessie (Frank) Johnson of Cushing & Florida, Darcy Philbrook of Dexter and fiancé John, her grandchildren Elijah and Kadance Johnson, Chase Philbrook, Dylan McClure, her beloved dog Piper, and her cat, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Norma B. Cannata, Shirley A. Stanley, Phyllis J. Hayes, Patricia A. Harper, and four brothers, Russell l., Charles L., John A., Lawrence W. Stanley, and her grandson Austin Mark Johnson.

A Celebration of Life in memory of Ethylen will be held at the Oddfellows Lodge in Warren on May 24th at 5pm. The event will take place upstairs, with refreshments provided downstairs afterward. Access will be available for all attendees, including a lift for those unable to climb stairs.

In lieu of flowers please make donations in Ethylen’s name to American Cancer Society or American Lung Assoc.  Memories and condolences may be shared on her tribute wall.
