Obituary of William Eugene Gagnon
It is with heart felt sorrow we announce the passing of our father, William (Bill) Eugene Gagnon Sr. on April 26 with his family by his side.
Bill was born March 12, 1938, in Brewer to William Walter and Helen Ruth (Murray) Gagnon. He graduated from John Bapst High School. Upon graduation, Bill joined the U.S. Navy as a pattern maker. While stationed in California, he met and married the love of his life, Mary Carolyn (Carol) Hedrick. They settled in Maine to raise their 4 children. He worked as a Brewer Police Officer, at Fisher Engineering, then owned Jameson's Market before starting his own Construction Company. He was a master Cabinet Maker and wood worker.
Bill loved the state of Maine and all it offered. He was an avid outdoorsman. He felt Maine was the perfect year-round playground. He loved to fish, hunt, swim, and coached baseball in the summer, fished, hunted, skied and ice skating in the winter. He made his own fly rods and tied his own flies, teaching anyone that wanted to learn. He passed all his outdoor interests on to his children, grandchildren, neighboring children, and the boys he mentored through Big Brothers.
Bill is predeceased by his wife Carol, his parents, two sisters, Anne, and Katy. He is survived by his sister, Janet ; his children, Brenda, Teresa, William Jr. and Janet ; grandchildren, Candice, Brittany and husband Shawn, Nicholas and Rachel, Zach, Josh, Abigail and James, Emily and Eric , and Kaila ; 8 great grandchildren; niece and God daughter Kathy, nephews Joe and wife Marjorie, Chip and wife Ellen; also special friends, life long “brother” Jackie, Paul, Lyndon, Dan and Ken.
At this time, we would like to thank the Togus VA Hospital and Pen Bay Medical Center along with the Sussman House for the great care our Dad received. Thank you to all his friends that helped Dad enjoy his final years. A special thanks goes to the Zack Shack for all the love they put in every order!
A Celebration of Life announcement to be determined at a later date. Memories and condolences may be shared on his tribute wall.
