Obituary of Laureen P. Leland

Laureen (Patten) Leland, 86, passed away peacefully holding her daughter Debbie’s hand. Laureen was born to Elwood & Marion (Trainor) Patten in Ellsworth on September 29, 1937.
Laureen met Robert at The Rainbow Roller Rink in Trenton, and after a few years of dating & Robert enlisting in the Air Force, he proposed, she said yes, then she flew alone to England at 18 years old to marry her sweetheart. Settling in Trenton upon Robert’s honorable discharge, Laureen held the role of Mother to their 2 daughters, worked as Trenton’s Tax Collector & Treasurer, clerk for the City of Ellsworth & Hancock County Registry of Deeds, then with Robert, built, owned & operated The Chowder Bowl Restaurant and Leland’s Sunrise Motel, both in Trenton. They worked as a team and were devoted to each other and the lives they had built. Together they enjoyed going out for their daily coffee with many friends, sitting on their deck watching as the cars went by, watching their grandchildren play sports, and in the last few years, being with their great-grandchildren became their most cherished moments. Laureen was known as “Grammie” to her grandchildren and “Grammie” & “GG” to her great-grandchildren. She was the most loving grandmother who was always there to support, encourage, and celebrate life’s moments, no matter the occasion. Her love knew no bounds.

Laureen loved to travel or simply take a drive. Some of her favorite places included Bingo, visiting her dear friends in New Hampshire, her favorite cousins (on her mother’s side) on Prince Edward Island, and a semi-recent road trip to Nashville, TN.

Laureen will be deeply missed by all who loved her. She always was asking about those she loved, even up until the very end. To have known Laureen was to be loved by her.
