George was born in Belgrade, Maine to Edwin and Gertrude Littlefield on February 23, 1934. He attended Augusta area schools and served in the Army during the Korean War, where he was stationed at the Panama Canal.

George married Carol Niles in 1958 and they moved to Chicago where George attended Devry Institute and graduated with a technical degree in 1960. They returned to Vassalboro, Maine, and purchased the 1800's farmhouse where George resided until 2018.

He is survived by his son, Russ Littlefield and daughter-in-law Dana Lundell; his daughter, Diane Anderson and son-in-law Mark; his beloved granddaughters, Carolyn Anderson and her partner Bryer Gallagher, Andi Anderson and her partner Dylan Brooks; and several nieces and nephews.
