I will never forget the day I met "Skip" at GoodWill Hinckley. I was a scared waif, but Skip, with his larger than life personality, put me at ease by saying during my intake interview, "I'm going to ask you questions I already know the answers to, so let's save us both time and don't lie to me." He leaned back in his banker's chair and asked me a series of questions. Later on, I came to know that Skip had a heart as big as his voice. We always looked forward to seeing him drive through campus in his pickup truck, where he would always stop to say hello to us boys. Skip was one of the many transformational figures who helped shape who I am today. I will always remember him for taking a chance on me. My condolences go out to his family. Rest assured that his legacy lives on in so many of the GoodWill kids he had the opportunity to influence over the years. ~skip powers

Barbara and family, it has been a long time since I last saw and spoke with Skip. I have very fond memories of the time I got to spend with him in my younger days. At the family camp on Smith Pond, Skip made sure I learned how to swim and handle a canoe. He took Debbie and me across the Knife Edge on Mt. Katahdin when we were only 10! He was always a patient teacher and I remember his great laugh. My condolences to the family. I am sure he has left many with positive memories like mine.
Sincerely,
Russ Bailey, Jr.

I am so sad to hear of Skip’s passing. I haven’t talked to my cousin in probably 40 years, yet he left me with some amazing memories all still vivid after 55+ years. First, he taught me how to swim by dropping me off the dock at Smith Pond. Although a little scared, I was completely safe and have been a swimmer ever since. He took me on my first, and only motorcycle ride. During the ride, he told me to never ride with someone who brags they have never been in an accident because they wouldn’t really understand safety. And I never did. Finally, I remember him telling me stories of Alaska and how many people died young due to the wilderness. I still have a piece of petrified wood he gave me from his time in Alaska. He sure left me with some great life lessons. Rest in peace, Skip.
