Robert Martelle Merrithew

Pittsfield- Robert Martelle Merrithew, 77, passed away on Friday, November 17,2023 at the Togus VA

Living Center with family by his side. Bob was born on June 18, 1946 in Hartland, Maine, the son of the

late Leonard and Marie (Quint) Merrithew. He proudly served the United States Navy until 1967.

 

Bob worked several jobs over the years as a machine operator, woodsman and for the Maine Central

Railroad. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, camping and fishing. Bob fished many bodies

of water throughout Maine, one of his favorites being Halfmoon Stream. He was a member of the First

Baptist Church in Pittsfield. He was a proud member of AA; attending and setting up meetings in his

local area. He was a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and MCI athletics. He was

a true Mainer who enjoyed picking fiddleheads, making baked beans for any occasion and Moxie soda.

 

Bob is survived by his daughter Heidi (Jeffrey) Dorr and son Gregory (Heather) Merrithew, grandchildren

Caleb Young, Nevin Dorr, Jack Merrithew and Onagh Merrithew; sisters Judy Paine and Kathy Lovely;

brothers Rick Merrithew and Scott Merrithew, as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters Joyce Cookson and Margaret (Peggy)

Cookson.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring of 2024. Memories and condolences may be shared on his tribute wall.

 

A special thank you to the amazing staff at the Togus VA for the loving care you gave our father.
