Obituary of Joseph Gerard Cloutier

Joseph F.G. Cloutier, 95, of Springvale, Maine, passed away peacefully on June 8th, 2023, at Gosnell Memorial House, Scarborough, Maine  He was born in Sanford, Maine, December 5th,

1927, the son of Ladislas Cloutier and Marie Rose (Charpentier), Cloutier.  He grew up in Sanford and was educated at local schools.  At the age of 17, he enlisted in the Marines and served in the Pacific Theater until the war ended.  After serving in the Marines, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served during the Korean War Conflict.  

After serving in the Korean War, he came back to Sanford, Maine, and married Theresa M. Dandeneau of Westbrook, Maine, in August 1955.  Together they raised 2 daughters, Donna M. White, of Sanford and Diane T. Kehoss (who passed away in 2010), and 2 sons, Duane G. Cloutier of Springvale, Maine, and Robert M. Cloutier of Alfred, Maine.  

They were married 52 years until Theresa's death on December 1st, 2007.  Joseph was predeceased by his wife, Theresa, his brothers, baby Rene, Conrad, Elphege, Leo, Harvey, Rene, and his sister, Eva.  He has one surviving sister, Theresa Morin, of San Antonio, Texas.  

Joseph was employed at the Sanford Nursing Home, in Maintenance and later on, at the Oakdale Cemetery, as the Superintendent until his retirement in 2005.  

Joseph loved to joke around with his family and friends.  He could always be found tinkering with something as he liked to keep busy fixing things.  He also made a delicious homemade root beer in his basement.  

He loved his grandchildren, Greg Kehoss, Danielle Dandeneau-Toutant and Angela Mahon.  One grandchild, Douglas Hussey passed away in 2010.  Angela Mahon’s children brought him much happiness and they held a special place in his heart.    

Joseph had a godchild, Richard Cloutier, and Richard's wife Janet Cloutier, and they took care of Joseph for many years before his death.  Janet was with Joe when he passed away. 

Joseph was a religious man and attended Notre Dame Church.  

The family would like to acknowledge the staff at Summer Commons, Sanford, along with Gosnell Memorial House in Scarborough and thank them for the loving care, compassion, and kindness they provided for Joseph.

Joseph was cremated and buried, at Oakdale Cemetery,on July 7th, 2023, with Father Bill performing the eulogy.
