Obituary of Wendell J. Bourgoin

Please share a memory of Wendell to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Wendell Bourgoin,69, died at the Aroostook House of Comfort on March 27, 2023 after a battle with
cancer. Born March 3, 1954 in Van Buren, Maine, Wendell graduated from Van Buren District High
School in 1973. Wendell worked at Hannaford Brothers in the distribution department in South Portland
until his retirement.
Wendell was predeceased by his father Albert Bourgoin, his mother Blanche (Poitras), a sister Florence
Bourgoin, a brother Maurice Bourgoin, his nephews Shad Hance and Scott Bourgoin.
Wendell is survived by his partner of 23 years, Martine St.Pierre, and her daughter Michelle Ayotte. He
is also survived by his sisters Nan Hill, Gail Hance (Bill), Sandra Desjardins (Roland), Norma McGerry
(Dennis) and brothers Russell Bourgoin (Ann), Rodney Bourgoin (Gaetane) and several nieces and
nephews.
Wendell was quiet spoken, but a very able tradesman. He would hear of a building problem and create a
solution before he was even asked. Many relied on his talents and willingness to offer a helping hand,
never wanting anything in return. In retirement he returned to his hometown and became a reassuring
presence to his family. Wendell loved all types of card games, especially cribbage, rarely losing. Wendell
loved to fish, and like other aspects of his life, he would rather help someone hook a big fish, than do it
himself.
Wendell was caring and nurturing, known as “Mr. Wendell” to Abby, Alec and Adam Ayotte.
Special thanks to Dr. Carl Flynn and his step daughter Michelle Ayotte for all their medical care over the
past year, and to the House of Comfort for their care in the last days of his life.
At Wendell’s request a graveside ceremony will occur at a later date.
