Obituary of Lynne M Gilbert
March 9, 1947 - February 15, 2023
Lynne Christensen Gilbert, 75, of Dexter Maine peacefully passed away on February 15, 2023 surrounded by family. Lynne was born in St. John, NB, Canada, the daughter of Wendell and Marie Christensen.
Lynne grew up in Fort Fairfield Me, "The County", where her love for family originated. Throughout her school years, Lynne worked on the family potato farm and after graduation went to school in Waterville Maine to become an X-Ray technician. She lived in various places in Maine before settling in central Maine where she raised her 6 children.
She worked as a realtor for Berkshire Hathaway in and around the Newport area, a job she loved, her way of helping others. Always working, she was happiest when she was busy selling and listing.
Lynne's love for life, family and adventure was felt by anyone who knew her. She was a strong, determined person, with her eye on the horizon. She loved the simple things, and her remedy for anything was fresh air. Lynne was a gifted designer of spaces, an antiques collector, a homemaker, seamstress and amazing cook. She always had an extra plate for someone who needed a meal, and room to bring in an adopted dog or cat who needed a soft place. She could change her own tires, chop a cord of wood and made a mean lasagna.
She lived life freely and by her own definition.
She was incredibly proud of her children who lovingly took care of her in her last few years.
She is survived by her Aunt Natalie Foster of Fort Fairfield, brother Tom Christensen and wife Melody of Bath, children Mahlia Carey and wife Amy of Scarborough, Kelley Smith of Carmel, Patrick Smith and wife Emily of Norridgewock, Danielle Gilbert and Michael Poisso of Exeter, Lyndsay Gilbert and Michael Tuttle of Dexter and Dominique Shortoff and husband Tim of Sprague, CT., grandchildren Kayden Smith of New York, Alex Gilbert of Dexter, Landen Sillanpaa of Exeter, Sophie, Slater and Axel Smith of Norridgewock, and Lynn and Gabriel Poisso of Dexter, nieces Wendy Christensen, Maryann Johnson, Donald Christensen, Carey Smith and Peter Smith.
She is predeceased by her parents.
She will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life is planned for the spring.
In lieu of flowers, we ask for donations to Lifeflight of Maine, a service that she praised for aiding in her good fight.
