Whenever I think of Markie, I see a bright face with twinkling eyes and a wry smile. I hear love, humor, excitement, or outrage in his voice. His passion about people, politics, and purpose reverberates in my brain.
At any time, he had a gazillion projects going on his in mind, in his workshop, and on his property. Being in his presence has always been enjoyable for me. His jokes, funny voices, wit, and high energy have constantly entertained me.
Markie had a great work ethic and always believed in doing a job the “right” way, his of course. Yes, he was opinionated and not afraid to share his views, but that was all part of his desire to have things work smoothly and efficiently. He wanted everything to make sense.
His creativity was evident is his hysterical stories, his music, and his upcycling of found objects which he would transform into artful, useable décor or cool gadgets.
I spoke to Mark many times during the past couple of years. I thought I would try to cheer him up, but usually, he cheered me up by making me laugh. I was amazed at his brave, accepting attitude while going through the challenges of his treatments.
I will miss Markie so much. I will remember our times together, how he made me chuckle, and how he lived his life with tremendous fervor.
