Attention on deck. The Chief is going ashore. Let’s remember and honor this rare sailor, our shipmate Chief Blastow. He is forever the image of a brave coxswain aboard a Pt Judith lifeboat saving a life in the middle of winter. Heavy seas were never a match for his skill and bravery. We watch in respectful awe a master seaman working in all seasons on the dangerous deck of a buoy tender. Always in charge of all challenges and devotedly watching over the safety of his crews as if family. Who among us is ready to try to match this true force of nature’s energy and strength as he works Aton from dark to dark. I count myself as honored to be one who still strives to meet his high standards. And remember fondly every moment in the presence of this pure product of Coast Guard core values of Honor, Respect and Devotion to Duty. Perhaps a tear during the last pipe for this true Boatswain’s Mate, but more a remembrance of someone with an ocean size heart who will live forever. Now our leader and friend is in the presence of our Lord, joyfully running an eternal buoy line and watching over us.
