Obituary of Elizabeth Matta

Elizabeth Ann Matta, 63, died December 26, 2021 holding her daughter’s hand succumbing to a lengthy struggle with numerous medical conditions.  Elizabeth was born December 29, 1957 in Gorham to the late John and Hazel Townsend.

She worked at Sylvania where a co-worker introduced her to the man she would marry and spend the rest of her life with. Once married, they moved to Standish. After her son was born, she gave up the 9-5 and focused on raising her family. Trying for eleven years, Elizabeth completed her family having a daughter. A few years later she moved them to Rt 35 in Standish.

Over the years Elizabeth enjoyed knitting mittens, hats and scarves for her family, friends, relatives and charity groups. She loved scrapbooking, painting, digital art, coloring, reading and various arts and crafts. Her deepest love was for her family.

Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents, her brother and sister-in-law Big John and Sandra Townsend. Surviving are her husband of 43 years, Ralph Matta Sr.; children, Ralph Matta Jr., Kristi Matta; brother Lee Townsend and wife Trina and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday October 9, 2022 at Standish Town Hall, 175 Northeast Rd, Standish. Interment will follow in Steep Falls Cemetery. Reception will be held at Town Hall after interment.
