Sylvia Ethel Florence Kemp Edgecomb, 83, of Ellsworth passed away Dec. 14, 2021, 20 years after being diagnosed with Scleroderma. However, it was issues from a fall and pneumonia that resulted in her recent hospital admission. She was born in Poplar District of East London, England, daughter of Sidney George Alfred and Ethel May (Short) Kemp. She was educated in British School Systems. Married in England, she moved to Mariaville, Maine in Feb. of 1960 with her husband and infant daughter Tracey. They resided there until March of 1963. In March 1963, they returned to Rayleigh, England where they lived until May 1967 at which time they returned permanently to Maine. Upon graduating from high school, she worked at Leslie and Godwin Insurance of London. She served as Deputy Registrar of Probate for Hancock County for thirteen years. Later, she was employed for many years at the law offices of Hale and Hamlin and Blaisdell and Blaisdell. She also attended to the bookkeeping duties of her husband Arthur’s welding business. Sylvia is survived by her beloved husband Arthur R. Edgecomb, her companion of 62 years; one daughter, Tracey L. E. Higgins and husband Brian; step-grandchildren Darby Higgins and companion Amanda of Ellsworth; Devin Higgins and wife Felisha of Deltona, Florida; great step-grandchildren Brody and Camden; several nieces and nephews, cousins and very special cat, Baby. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers Derek, Alan and Terrence Kemp. Sylvia was a 50 year plus member of the Eastern Star and member of the United Baptist Church of Ellsworth. Sylvia loved to work in her garden with the many lovely flowers that she planted and nurtured. She always had great love for God’s creatures. In lieu of flowers, friends may donate to the Bangor Humane Society, Mt Hope Ave., Bangor ME, 04401 or the Scleroderma Foundation, 300 Rosewood Drive, Danvers, MA 01923.
