Obituary of Kevin M. Brandt
On November 30, 2021 my heart, as well as his family’s were forever broken when Kevin Michael
Brandt left this earth and was welcomed into Heaven.
Kevin was born March 9, 1977 to Gerald and Lily (Lyon) Brandt in Augusta, Maine. He was raised in
Richmond, Maine during his youth and later moved to North Augusta were he attended Buker and Cony
High School graduating in 1995.
In August 1995 during the Windsor Fair, Kevin and I met and started dating. On May 15, 2004 we were
married in the gazebo where we shared our first kiss nine years before. In July 2004, Kevin was
diagnosed with a brain tumor. Our world was shattered, but in February 2005 our son Hunter was born
early weighing just over a pound. Kevin was extremely proud and delighted to be called “Papa”. In 2009
Kevin went into remission and we raised our son and created many happy memories. We were never rich
in money but we were rich in love and happiness. We moved to Vassalboro, and Kevin became a Stay at
Home Dad and every morning he waited with Hunter to see him off to school and to meet his bus in the
afternoon. Kevin cherished us and told us everyday how much he loved us.
He would do anything he could to help his family and friends. He would not hesitate to help a friend in a
moments notice. Kevin would often drive me to work during snowstorms and show up before the end of
my shift and start to clean my coworkers cars off of snow after a long shift. He had a soft spot for
animals and almost all of our pets were adopted by Kevin when they were abandoned and unwanted. He
was so generous and kind and never argued with me when I gathered several names off the angel tree at
Christmastime.
Kevin loved to drive and we would often go for rides throughout Maine and New Hampshire. We never
had a destination and we would take roads we had never been on to see where we ended up. He loved
being outdoors, enjoying nature. He was a hunter and fisherman and would often go “heater hunting”.
In 2017, Kevin’s brain tumor returned and was more aggressive this time around. His speech was
effected and sometimes he would say funny things in place of the actual words he wanted to say. We
called it “tumor humor” and we would refer to his tumor as a lemon. We laughed and cried together these
past four years as Kevin lost control of his body. He was no longer able to drive and hunting was a far
memory for him. He lost his energy and was unable to keep up with outdoor activities. Through it all he
never complained and was a laid back guy. He would often say he lived,” just one day at a time.” He
was my forever love for 26 years and I will miss him and his generous heart.
Kevin was predeceased by his grandmother Dorothy Shaw and his father Gerald.
He is survived by his wife Jodele (Chase), his son Hunter, mother Lily Brandt, brother Robert Brandt,
Uncle Charlie Lyon and his wife Ann, Uncle Robin Lyon, Cousins Travis, Parker and Jessica Lyon, Aunt
Mary Wood and her husband Doug. His mother n law Sally Costello, sister n law Andrea Grant and
nephew Joey Grant and his best friend Donny Hardy.
Kevin requested no funeral and a celebration of his life will be arranged later in March 2022.
Thank you to MaineGeneral hospice for their wonderful care of Kevin in his final weeks. Especially his
nurses Holly and Lynda who were absolute angels. Special thank you to Dr. Christine Lu-Emerson who
was the kindest doctor that ever treated Kevin. Thank you to our friend Grace McGillicuddy Thomas for
her help and care during Kevin’s last week.
A special thank you to all our friends, my 1 West family who helped us the past five weeks with gifts,
time and end of life care. There are to many to name but you all know who you are!
In lieu of flowers please pay it forward and be generous just like Kevin. Pick a name off the angel tree,
donate to the humane society in your area or help any person or animal in need and tell your loved ones
everyday how much you love them.
A Memorial Tree was planted for Kevin
