Obituary of Carl L. Cottrell
Carl “Mike” Cottrell, 89, of Winthrop, ME, passed away peacefully September 6, 2021, at Captain Lewis Residence in Farmingdale, ME.
Carl was born to Evelyn and Raymond Cottrell on November 16, 1931, in Troy, NY. He grew up in Hoosick Falls, NY, with his two brothers John and Paul. He spent many years traveling the world as a Merchant Marine before going to work for 25 years as Plant Engineer for the State of Maine. He married Lorraine Clifford on July 25, 1969. Together they happily raised two daughters in Winthrop. He lived in his home in Winthrop for 53 years where he enjoyed working on his tractors and cars, puttering in his garage, spending time outdoors, and greatly enjoyed time with his wife and family. Carl was a proud member of the Masons for many years. He had a fantastic sense of humor, loved to tease and be silly. His humor was infectious and appreciated.
Carl was predeceased by his older brother, John Cottrell, and his brother-in-law, Bert Galouch.
Carl is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lorraine Clifford-Cottrell; his daughter Jennifer Hoffman and her husband Clay, daughter Carrie Maguire and her husband Sean, grandsons Noah and Joshua Hoffman, Aidan and Dylan Maguire, all of Augusta, ME. He also is survived by his brother and best friend, Paul Cottrell and his wife Marion of Winthrop, ME, sister-in-law Joan Galouch of Litchfield, ME, brother-in-law Gregory Clifford of Palm Bay, FL, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
At Carl’s request, there will be no services at this time. Condolences may be shared on this tribute.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Michael School, 56 Sewall St, Augusta, ME 04330. His daughters both teach at St. Michael and all four grandsons attended or are attending St. Michael School.
Carl will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
