Obituary of Gerard R. Martel

Gerard R. “Jerry” Martel, 73, of Lisbon, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 16, at Central Maine Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born in Auburn, ME on October 23, 1947, son of Joseph and Leonie (Genesse) Martel. Jerry graduated from St. Dominic’s Regional High School in 1966 and enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served as an Air Defense Radar Technician until his honorable discharge in 1969. His employment history included roles at RCA Corporation, Arrow Hart, Maine Electronics, and Maine Poly, ultimately retiring from Riley Medical, Inc. in Auburn, ME. Jerry was an avid music lover, having a vast collection of albums that spanned generations. He was also especially fond of his cat, Princess. Jerry is survived by his sister, Pauline Martel LaBonte, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; five brothers, Robert, Roger, Bertrand, Ronaldo, and Bernard; three sisters, Rolande Dube, Lorraine and Bertha Martel, and his long-term partner, Charlie Richard. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Thursday, April 29th at 9AM at Sacred Heart Church, 8 Sacred Heart Place, Auburn. Burial to follow at the Veterans' Cemetery Chapel at 163 Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
