Obituary of Sarah A Wallace

Please share a memory of Sarah to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rockland Sarah (Sally) Alma Wallace passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 23, 2021 with her family by her side. She had a resident at the Knox Center in Rockland, Maine for the last 4 years and was happy there because of the great care and love given to her by the entire staff for which we are thankful and full of gratitude. Sally was born on June 10th, 1934 to James and Ruth Cookson in Calais, Maine where she spent her childhood days. Sally graduated from Calais high School in 1952. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church and sang in the choir. Sally’s faith was strong and her love and compassion for others knew no bounds. A sweet and gentle spirit, she wore her heart on her sleeve for everyone to see. Her kindness and generosity will be remembered by all who knew her. Over the course of her life she was proudly known as a devoted and loving daughter, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and, without a doubt, a friend. Sally loved life, nature, and all animals (especially her many cats) and embraced these gifts every day. She took great pleasure in seeing the first Robin or dandelion in Spring and the Mt Battie star light up at Christmas. She was a very Patriotic and loved to see the American flag waving proudly and equally proud of her Irish heritage. On any given day you could see her walking up or down Washington Street either going to work or coming home. She loved meeting and talking to the tourists in the summer to see where they were from. She was genuinely interested in everything and anyone. Sally loved sports and enjoyed going to see her children and grandchildren play basketball. She loved attending the tournaments to see the Calais memorial high School teams play. They made her so proud when they came out onto the court, she would yell the loudest. Sally loved all types of music and was always eager to see a show. She looked forward to the Blues Festival and Union Fair every year and even got on stage at The Time Out Pub to play tambourine for her grandson’s Band. The last concert she attended was James McMurty at the Grand in Ellsworth. Sally took great pride in the many jobs she had. She worked as a housekeeper for the Unobsky family in Calais for many years before moving permanently to Camden in 1974. She worked at the Knox Woolen Mill, Tibbetts, the Mountain Street Nursing Home as a CNA and at Reny’s as a clerk. She Was employed by Reny’s for nearly 20 years before retiring in her late 70’s. She genuinely cared and loved everyone she met. Sally will be sadly missed by her 4 children Donald Wallace (Germaine) from Clinton, Rick Wallace (Valerie) from Union, Mary Burgess (George) from Warren, and Gale Dennis (Jeff) from Montville. She will also be missed by sisters Annie R. Ramirez from Camden and Marti J. Reed from Owl’s Head. Her older sister, Barbara O. Cox from Woodland, passed away in July 2010 in Littleton, NH... She was proud of her 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Sally is now with her step grandchildren Michael and David Flewelling. Karen Wallace and great grandsons Gavin and Micah Wallace. A graveside service and celebration of her life will be held at a later date, with time and location TBA. In lieu of flowers, contributions to your local animal shelter or food pantry would be greatly appreciated.
