Obituary of Robert Wayne Morton
Robert Wayne Morton, 72, of Sangerville, Maine, passed away peacefully on November 27th, 2020, at Togus in Augusta, with his wife at his side. He fought a long battle for many years with health issues before succumbing to Covid-19.
He was born on February 1st, 1948 in New Harbor, Maine to John E. and Lottie (Poland) Morton.
Robert was known all over the state as Vietnam Bob and for his love of country music. He was proud of his service on the front lines in the Vietnam War while in the Army. His songs could be heard at the local country jams, CMCMA, MACM, DEMA, and MCMA. He had a talent for writing songs and singing from the heart. In 2011 and 2012, he won several trophies for his voice and song writing from the NACMAI Contest in Tennessee.
On March 27, 1976 in Topsham, Maine, he married the love of his life, Jean Leona Sibley. He loved spending time with his wife and walking his dogs across the road to the beach. He is survived by his wife, Jean Morton of Sangerville, Children; Pheobe Boyington and Otto Miller of Sangerville, Ivy Lachapelle and Chuck Stewart of Canaan, and Robert and Annie LaChapelle of Leeds. Siblings; Louie and Mitzy Morton of New Harbor, Arthur and Diane Morton of Greene, and Dollie and Bill Crocker of Litchfield. He has many grandchildren and great-grandchildren to carry on his love of music. He was proceeded by his parents, several nephews, and his grandson.
His family would like to thank the staff at Togus and his many country music friends for the support they have provided throughout the years. Services will be determined at a later date in 2021.
