Obituary of Paul Roland Dostie

Please share a memory of Paul to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Paul Roland Dostie, age 64, went to heaven on Saturday, July 11, 2020. He was born November 16, 1955, and raised in Weeks Mills with his four brothers and three sisters on their parent’s chicken farm. He then lived in Hallowell until graduating from Hall-Dale High School in 1974. While active in Augusta’s Penny Memorial Youth Group, Paul gave his heart to Jesus and devoted himself to serve God by loving and caring for others the rest of his life. His prayer was that everyone he knew would have Jesus be their best friend. He moved to Rockland to work with his father building foundations, and met Alane Burkett at a Bible study in Thomaston. They married in 1979, and had 41 joy-filled years together. Paul was an extremely hard worker. He had a variety of jobs over the years. First, in Augusta, he was the youngest manager of all the Pizza Hut restaurants. He worked at Passmore Lumber and became manager of E.C. Hart. For ServiceMaster, he managed the cleaning at a nursing home, hospital, and school in Massachusetts. Returning to Maine to raise his children, he managed the Maritime Farms store in Rockland’s south end. He then provided professional cleaning for C.M.P., the Knox and Waldo county courthouses, the Rec Center, and was sexton at two local churches. For a while, he loved working outside being a landscaper and handyman. Back inside, Paul was head of custodial services for R.S.U. 13, then at the Y.M.C.A. in Camden. He enjoyed the people he worked with and the customers he served, appreciating all the friendships formed. He loved his kids and grandkids to the moon and back. He would move mountain and earth for them, loved to make them laugh, and made sure they enjoyed life. His cat, Zuzu, was devoted to him, especially after he became ill. She stayed by his side or in his lap providing much needed comfort. Pain was his constant companion for the last eight years. With God’s help, he had a cheerful, positive attitude. In 2014, he received a gift of life from an organ donor and enjoyed six more years with his loved ones and friends. His mother-in-law, Lorraine Burkett, loved him like her own sons and helped care for him during his illness. The family would like to thank all of Paul's doctors, especially Dr. Eric Schenk, the transplant team at Mass General Hospital and the entire staff at Pen Bay Medical Center for their excellent care. We hope everyone able will become a donor. Paul was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Gladys Dostie, his brother Richard “Dicky”, and his sister Betsy. He is survived by his wife, Alane, children David and Karen, and Karen’s children, Cooper and Julia, siblings Carol Ouellette, David and his wife Penny, Raymond, Arthur, Cynthia Savage, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. There will be a celebration of Paul’s life at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be mailed to Care Net Pregnancy Center of Rockland, 462 Old County Road, Rockland, Maine 04841 or online at https://carenetofrockland.org/support/
