It has been almost 40 years since I was a neighbor of Chanel and Cecile, but I remember them as if it were yesterday. They were so welcoming to me. I was in my first teaching job and owned my first little car. Whenever the little car needed some maintenance in it would go to see Mr. Chanel. He would repair what was needed. He also took time to explain to me what was wrong and how to prevent problems. I so valued anytime I had with them for the fine example they shared about life and faith.

I can not imagine that Van Buren will ever forget the many contributions this man has made for his community. Especially, his generosity and that of his wife and family. I still remember how warm and welcoming the whole family would be when Barb invited me over. I am sure he continues to watch over his loved ones. The connection is not broken.
