Obituary of Gordon O'Dell Tracey
GORDON O’DELL TRACY, 81 +/-, kicked the bucket Monday, February 3, 2020, at Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital. He was surrounded lovingly by Heidi, Amanda, Ruel 2, with support from Randy, Don and hospital staff all while being annoyed by Holly. He was born July 17, 1938, to Lillian Mae (Danico) and Frank Tracey, at an undisclosed location.
Monday was similar to one of his favorite Alfred Hitchcock magazines. There was a doctor in black scrubs, confusion, questions, tests, motives, causes...we turned to 221 B Baker Street for answers. Answers which we did not obtain.
Gordon went to school in Ellsworth. Then furthered his education by getting his EMT degree. He married, procreated two daughters. Once the second girl was born, divorce was imminent.
Gordon was best known for helping friends, family or any person in need, sharing jokes and gardening. He also was an enthusiastic viewer of comedy, singer and whistler. He shared his love of reading, playing cards and board games, and doing puzzles with his daughters. He would spend time with his girls teaching them everything from crocheting to splitting wood, which took patience due to Holly being so uncoordinated.
We feel confident that he worked. Gordon regularly brought home paychecks and there were no collectors at the door. He claimed he worked many years for the County Ambulance and for Town Auto Sales. He even hung a plaque as proof in the kitchen. Duly note, it showed up after the awards store opened in Brewer.
He was outlasted by his favorite daughter Heidi Tracey and the other daughter, Holly Mason; son in law Randy; former son in law Ruel; five grandchildren, Amanda, Jessica, Joshua, Ruel 2, and Matt; 2 great-grandchildren Lilia and Lukas. Also survived by brother Dale; special aunt and uncle Mr. and Mrs. Richard Danico, nieces Cathy, Becky and Tammy; and a plethora of family; two special friends, Eddie Pollack and Dale Abbott. He also left behind many good friends, coworkers and acquaintances.
Those who cashed in their chips earlier than him, aka predeceased: his mother Lillian (Danico) Tracey with whom he cared for until her last moment; aunt Mary Danico; sister Ruth Marie (Tracey) Bennett and her husband Robert Bennett, and many other family members.
Although this obituary may seem to some to be disrespectful, my sister and I wrote this to honor our father. We spent many years, hours and moments with our father who loved to share a joke to lighten bleak moments, to relax people who were tense, and put a smile on the face of anyone.
At Gordon’s request there will be no service, so come on down – we are having a Remembrance Potluck Party July 18th, 2020 at Dad’s old homestead. There is no rain date, you are not made of sugar, so bring an umbrella. Snow date July 19.
A Memorial Tree was planted for Gordon
