William Speed

Obituary of William James Speed

William (Speedy) J Speed Died Saturday December 21st with his family by his side in the land that he loved so much... Scarborough, Maine A gentle soul, Speedy was a partner to Kim, Dad to Dominic and Lucas, brother to Melinda and friend to many... He was a friend to many because he rarely spoke ill of anyone, friend or foe. He was a loyal & dedicated son to his Mom Joanne and Dad David, who he took care of in the later stages of their lives, with poignancy and grace; we should all be so lucky. He was Grandpa to 2 beautiful little girls, daughters of Dom & Angie. Speedy enjoyed sports (go Buckeyes), being outdoors for just about anything, including hiking, kayaking, cross country skiing, and any adventure that involved fresh air, good friendships and maybe a VERY HOPPY beer or two. Frye Island, was his "Happy Place”, his 'center of the universe.' A place to go to clear the soul, connect with nature and be at peace. Speedy would never shy away from a party, but was most comfortable with a few close friends, good conversation and a few laughs. He was always way more interested in talking to people and hearing about their lives and what was going on with them, than talking about himself..., a true friend. On this cold December day, we all have a small hole in our hearts. We are better people for knowing him and the privilege it was to be in his life. In leu of flowers, donations can be made to: The Animal Welfare Society of Kennebunk, ME Animalwelfaresociety.org OR Hospice of Southern Maine 207-560-4440.
