Mr. Hale was my principal at Deering HS and he was such a nice man. My sister, brother and I all attended DHS and he was our principal. When I graduated, he sent my parents a wonderful letter congratulating them on raising their children so well and that he would miss seeing them at the school functions. My mother was especially touched, but my Dad was pleased too. Mr. Hale was a class act and I am sorry for your family's loss.

Dear Sonia, Rob and families. In the spring of 1971 your Dad hired me to be the Cooperative Education Teacher-coordinator at Deering High School. He then hired me to be the schools first Boys' Soccer Coach along with the Head Boys' and Girls' Swimming Coach, combined positions that I held over my 40 years at Deering. He trusted and encouraged me as an educator and was always offering positive suggestions as how I might improve my teaching skills. I worked for 8 principals at Deering in the years to follow and as I often reflect back on my career, I owe all and any of my success to Donal Hale and will be forever grateful!!He was truly a unique and very fine man! I am trying to deal with this turn of events. Last year at this time Don was there for my Dad (Curtis) after Dad's heart attack, Don visited every day, sometimes twice a day. Many days Dad was asleep or unware of where he was and Don would sit with me in the lounge area. While Don was not a man of many words, he did have a very dry humor and I found him to be very comforting. Don would sit with my Dad in the evenings and while neither one spoke much, they both enjoyed each others company. My Dad thought a lot of Don and the feeling was mutual. The old saying "what a difference a year makes" is truly correct in this situation. Don will be greatly missed! To the entire family, you are in our thoughts and prayers. Debbie & Tom Prouty

Dear Rob and Family;
We were sad to read of Don’s passing. Some of our happiest memories as a couple are from the years Preston coached swimming at Greeley; and Rob, you were so much a part of that. We had great support from the swimmers’ parents over the years; but none were more loyal and enthusiastic than Don and Fran. We know how much you will all miss Don. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We have always been so proud of the man you grew up to be, Rob; and we know Don was too.
With sympathy and best wishes to Rob, Joyce, Sonia, and the family;
Debbie and Preston Galarneau

The Board of St. Andrews Auxiliary send our deepest sympathy to the family of Don and Fran Hale. They have been extremely supportive and generous to health care on the Boothbay Peninsula through the Auxiliary. They have been very dear friends of the Auxiliary. We have been very grateful for them.
Our thoughts are with the family at this sad time.
