Obituary of Richard McGray
Richard McGray died at home Wednesday morning, July 29, 2009, after a long struggle with lymphoma. He was born in Lowell, Massachusetts November 6, 1928, son of Robert H. McGray Sr. and Pearl (Ryan) McGray and has lived in Belfast since he was 18 months old. Dick was educated in Belfast grade schools and Crosby High School. He served with the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division as a heavy mortar crewman. He served one term on the Belfast City Council. Dick was a Mason and a member of the American Legion. He owned a business on Main Street in Belfast for 43 years ranging from a gas station to servicing and selling snowmobiles and ending in small engine repair. He loved cooking and living out to camp.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lou Lorraine (Sinford) McGray; a son, Michael E. McGray; a daughter, Molly McGray Riley and a grandson, Andrew J. Riley; four sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, August 6th at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast with Rev. Dr. Kate Winters and Rev. Joel Krueger officiating.
