Obituary of Martha Jane Weeks

Martha Jane (Robinson) Weeks, age 95, passed away on 9-27-09 at 5:05 A.M. in her sleep. Martha, or Janie as many people called her, was born August 4, 1914 in Houlton, Maine. Martha Jane is survived by her brother Wallace W. Robinson Jr; nephews David A. Robinson and Peter J. Robinson; step daughter Judith (Weeks) Harlow and her daughters Darby Thomas (Bedford, Mass), Stacey Billington of Dexter, Kristin Fornier of Auburn, and Dana Morris of Bangor. Martha Jane began her life in Dyer Brook, Maine with her parents, Wallace W. Robinson Sr, mother Edna G. (Huntley) Robinson, and brothers Kenneth, Herbert and Wallace Jr. (nicknamed Jacky by Martha because he reminded her of Jacky Koogan). Although Martha’s family roots began on a potato farm in Dyer Brook, Maine owned by her parents, Martha wanted a life away from the farming community. She attended Dyer Brook schools until 1929 when she enrolled in Pine Tree Academy in Auburn, Maine (1929-1931). After graduating from Pine Tree Academy, Martha pursued cosmetology working at Limestone Air Force Base and then later in Portland Maine. Martha also attended business college in Portland, Maine. Martha enjoyed reading about history, and genealogical research. In her early years she also enjoyed skiing, fishing, fencing, pottery, sewing, and home making, to mention a few of her interests. She supported her late husband, Willis J. Weeks, who was a successful executive for the Bell Telephone Company along with his many other interests and accomplishments. Martha lived at her home in Belfast, Maine until August of 2008 when she became a resident of Tall Pines Nursing Home. Her family who enjoyed her company will sadly miss her. Martha’s brother Wallace (Jack) has lived with Martha for twenty-seven years and has supported her and offered assistance over the years. A memory stone will be placed on the Robinson lot in Dyer Brook, Maine in her honor, and she will be interred in the Weeks lot at the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Greenland, New Hampshire. Rest in Peace Martha, we love you. Arrangements under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast. On-line condolences may be placed a www.crabielripostafuneralhome.com.
