Alice Honings of Damariscotta Maine died Tuesday March 2nd at her home. She lived at Schooner Cove of the Miles Hospital complex. Born in Brooklyn NY September 8 1909 to Conrad and Katherine Schmidt, she was married to Walter Honings in 1931. Alice was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed secretarial work and was first employed by a steel company on 5th Ave in NYC. Then she moved on to work for the public school system of Westbury NY where she helped various principals before becoming the secretary for the chief psychologist of the 7 schools there. She donated her skills to help at the Episcopal churches in Queens NY and then Greenport NY. She was a "pink lady" at the Greenport hospital also. Alice loved to entertain at her beloved Greenport home. She and Walter moved to Daytona Beach FL and Alice lived there for 20 years before moving to Maine to be closer to family. She enjoyed Maine for it's beauty and ruggedness. She was a talented painter and her artwork decorated her home. She is survived by her son Jeffrey and daughter Marylin. She enjoyed a good life of 100 years and witnessed so many events of the 20th century. She will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Miles Home Health and Hospice organization. Alice was treated very kindly by these people.
