M. Nelson Obituary

M. EVELYN “EVIE” NELSON, 85, passed away at her residence in Belfast on Aril 4, 2010. She was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts on February 4, 1925, daughter of Jacob and Bertha (Makela) Djerf. Evie and her husband pastored many churches in Maine and Long Island. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and worked with the Wings of Love program. Evie was active in volunteer work with hospital chaplaincy, enjoyed walking and swimming. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Rev. Foster R. Nelson. Survivors include her children, Susan Greeley and husband Edwin of Morrill, Douglas E. Nelson of Belfast, Mark L. Nelson of Fort White, Florida, Rebekah Tucker and husband Christopher of South Casco; a brother, James Djerf of Hampton, New Hampshire; two grandsons, James Greeley and Todd Greeley; two step-grandchildren, Jerry and Chrissy; three great-grandsons, Zachary, Aidan and Jacob; many nieces and nephews. Friends and family are invited for a time of visitation at Morrill Baptist Church from 11-1 on Saturday, April 10th where formal service will begin at 1 p.m. A gathering will follow immediately after the service in fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations in Evie’s memory to Emmanuel Baptist Church, Missions Fund, Lincolnville Avenue, Belfast, ME 04915 or Waldo County Hospice Volunteers, PO Box 407, Belfast, ME 04915. Arrangements under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast.
