Wesley Robert Duling, 66, of Lyman Maine, Woodworker, Teacher, Artist
Wesley Robert Duling of Lyman Maine and Marco Island Florida passed peacefully into the sunrise on July 9, 2010. Born at Chelsea Naval Hospital Wes and was brought up in MA, ME and OH. He is a graduate of Keene State College in Keene, NH. He taught woodworking for 25 years at Biddeford High School, taught night school as well for a number of years. Wes worked as a volunteer fireman for the Goodwins Mills Fire Department, was a Lyman selectman and participated in the Maine Bureau of Civil Emergency Preparedness program in the early 1980s.
He enjoyed time in his workshop making wood creations. Many of his pieces as well as his students’ pieces adorn homes all over the country. His fireside stool is especially remembered as he made them for craft shops, friends and family members. In his retirement years he enjoyed winters at their condo in Marco Island, Florida where he worked as a handyman. He took classes at the Marco Island Center for the Arts. Leisure moments were spent enjoying art shows, Nascar races, and sports. He was often seen in a Red Sox or Patriots cap and boy, did he love his place on his stone fireplace and in his Corvette.
His father, Robert Wesley Duling in 1945, predeceased Wes. He is survived by a wife of 43 years, Jean Saunders Duling, daughter Lisa Madore and son-in-law Tim Madore of Lyman, Maine a son, Bob Duling and daughter-in law , Michelle Lee Duling of Lyman; two grandchildren, Maisy Lien Madore and Emma Lee Duling of Lyman; his mom, Carolyn Munnick Essel and step father, Hubert Essel of Peobody, MA, sisters Ellen Vigil of E. Boston, Paula Squires of Wilbraham, MA, brother Bill Single and sister-in-law Irene Single of Lyman, Gunnar Single and sister-in-law Veronica Single, Lyman, a brother-in-law and sister- in-law Al and Linda Saunders of Plymouth, MA many nephew, nieces, cousins and loved ones.
A memorial service will be held Tues, July 13 at 10:00 p.m. at the First Parish Congregational Church, 12 Beach Street in Saco, Maine. A celebration of life gathering will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society of Southern Maine or First Parish Congregational Church. .
