Obituary of Malcolm Early Joy

Malcolm Early Joy Jr. 77, of Searsmont Maine, passed away on Sept. 3, 2010. He had fought a long battle with heart problems as well as cancer. He was born to Malcolm Joy Sr. and Lena Milliken Joy in Camden, ME on November 16, 1932. He grew up on Joy Rd. In Lincolnville, ME. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Roland and Carlton Joy , and sister Gwendolyn Joy Jamieson. Also by his son; Malcolm Earl Joy III on March 19, 2010. Malcolm graduated from Union Springs Academy in Auburn NY. He served in the Army (82nd Airbourne) from 1953 until 1956. Later that year he entered the US Air Force and served for 17 years. He retired from the Air Force in 1973. His specialty was in electronics. And for the next several years his employment was in medical electronics, including instruments for cardiac research in Syracuse, NY, Cumberland County Hospital system in Fayetteville, NC and Tibbetts in Camden, ME. Being in the service gave him and Jean both travel-lust. In 2000 they travelled in their motor home almost 6 months seeing and doing many things. Also on their 50th anniversary they were given a cruise by their children to Bermuda. He always loved the ocean and it was that love that brought him and Jean back to his beloved coast of Maine in 1983. Eventually their grown children followed. Travelling became his way of dealing with his battle with cancer. He wanted almost daily trips to the airport at Owls Head, the ferry dock at Lincolnville, or to see the windmills in Knox. He was always reading, and his favorite book was the Bible. He read it extensively and was never happier than when able to discuss it. Many hours were spent in deep study and discussions about the plan of salvation. His greatest desire was to see all accept Jesus. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Jean Smith Joy, a brother Timothy and wife Diane Joy, of Lawrenceville, GA, and a sister Geraldlyn and husband Robert Craig of Perham, ME. A sister-in-law Sue Green of Chattanooga, TN, and uncle Eugene Milliken of Camden, ME. Also survived by 2 sons; Charles Joy and wife Cynthia of Lincolnville, H. Scott Joy of Perham, ME, 2 daughters; Sandra and her husband Timothy Byrd, And Laurie K. and her husband Ron Roy. 11 grandchildren; Jennifer, Allison, Joshua, Amanda, Ashley, Toni, Christie, Angela, Stephen, Anny and Sarai, 9 great grand kids; Porsche Nicholas, Koal, James, Ananais, Cyrus, Darby, Evie and Rhys. Services will be held at the Camden Seventh-day Adventist Church, 132 Camden St. Rockport, ME on Sunday September12, 2010 at 2 PM. Burial will follow later that day at Lasalle-Drinkwater Cemetery on Moody Mountain Rd. in Searsmont. On-line condolences may be offered to the family at www.ripostafh.com.
