Obituary of Hester M. Abbuhl

HESTER McCLYMONDS AILES ABBUHL, 70, passed quietly at home with family and friends in Northport, Maine on September 4th after a brief illness. Hester was born on April 28, 1940 in Morgantown, WV to Helen Wales and Stephen Ailes. Hester was raised in Bethesda, MD where she graduated from Holten Arms School. She attended Wells College in Aurora, NY as well as West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV. In addition to being a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother, Hester was proud to be the proprietor of The Scribe. Anyone who knew Hester knew her to love people, to be a generous friend and to go out of her way to help others. Hester was very active in the community and her church, whether in Great Falls, Virginia, McCormick, South Carolina or Northport, Maine. She had a wonderful gift of compassion for people and touched many lives wherever she was. Hester is survived by her loving husband, Willmott “Bill” Abbuhl, Northport, Maine; her daughter, Susan and husband, Scott Ward of Delray, West Virginia; her son Michael Nettles and wife Violet of Manassas Park, Virginia; three grandchildren, Matthew, Melissa and Angelina Ward, Delray, WV; three brothers, Stephen Ailes, Walter Ailes both of Martinsburg, West Virginia and Richard Ailes of Camden, Maine. At Hester’s wish, she was cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Hester’s memory to Great Falls Ecumenical Council, PO Box 622, Great Falls, VA 22066.
