Obituary of Vaughn E. Wakefield
VAUGHN E. WAKEFIELD, 74 of Albion, died January 1, 2011 at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a long illness. He was born March 12, 1935 in Boston, Massachusetts. In his early years, he worked at Cianbro, 12 years at Clinton Iron Works, 10 years for David Starbird plowing snow for the Town of Albion and then retired. Vaughn loved fishing, hunting, camping, four-wheeling, snowmobiling. He loved fishing with his wife at Moosehead Lake and Cape Jellison. Vaughn was very giving to his family.
He was predeceased by an uncle Colin Wakefield who was like a brother to him, an uncle who he was very close to, Warren Wakefield of New Hampshire; aunt Mildred Applebee; his ex-wife Rita Wakefield and son Eli Whitcomb Jr. Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Shirley Wakefield of Albion; his children, Danny and Linda Whitcomb, Randy and Darlene Whitcomb, all of Belmont, Gloria and Kevin Howard of Frankfort, Bobby Whitcomb of Swanville; his step-children, Roger and Brenda Wakefield of Fairfield, Lillian Moody of Florida and Tammy Collins of Winterport; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and his dog Ruby.
