Obituary of Merle A. Trott

Merle A. Trott, Sr, 73 passed away Thursday March 3, 2011 at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a month of heart complications. Merle was born November 2, 1937 in Portland Maine to Millard E. and Esther E. Trott Sr. He graduated from Waterville High School in 1957 then attended Culinary Institute of America in Hartford, CT. graduated in 1959. He joined the Army in 1960 , served some of his time in Etain, France where he was a cook, boy scout leader on the base, worked with international scout troops and played Santa Claus for the base. Discharged in 1963 where he and his twin brother opened Trott’s restaurant in Waterville where he met his wife. He married Sophie (Sophronia) A. Bibber on September 3, 1966 and have enjoyed 44 wonderful years together. Merle worked in Bath at the Bath Memorial Hospital as food service director until 1972. He and his wife moved back to the Waterville area where he worked at Seton Hospital as Food Service Director until 1980 when he went to work at Maine Veterans Home as a chef. He later changed occupations and became a mental health worker where he enjoyed 21 years at Motivational Services Inc. in Waterville where he retired. His last three years he worked part time as a bus monitor for Fairfield school district. For 13 years he was the head chef for Advent Christian Camp meeting in Belgrade. He was predeceased by his parents, Millard E. and Esther E Trott Sr, brother Millard E. Trott Jr, father and mother-in-law Chester and Mabel Bibber. Merle and Sophie raised two wonderful children, son, Merle Jr. and significant other Shirley Marshall of Fairfield and daughter, Melissa and husband Michael Bernardini Sr. of Albion. Merle enjoyed and loved his grandchildren, Michael Bernardini Jr. and fiancee Lisa Helsel, Daniel Bernardini and girlfriend Clarissa Bergeron-Lawrence, Vincent Bernardini and girlfriend Kayla Keay, Zackariah Bernardini, Makayla Bernardini, Christian Trott and family friends, Sarah Chizmar and Michael Thomas. He is survived by his identical twin brother, Malcolm E. Trott who he was very close to and his wife Joyce and their children Sarah Lund, MaryEllen Gregory and David Trott; brother Carlton Trott of Maryland and his children Mark, Beth, Kathy and Daniel; brother and sister-in-law Frank and Dorothy Bibber of Florida and their children Valerie Irland, Dorothy Grant and Frank Bibber Jr, and Millard Jr’s children Kim Trott and Sue Trott. Merle enjoyed life and enjoyed every moment he could making other people happy. He was a member of the RB Hall band, played clown for 43 years and Santa Claus for 53 years, scout troop leader, choir director at the Sydney Baptist church and loved to sing at various churches and events. He loved to make corny jokes and to make his family laugh. In respecting his wishes there will be no visiting hours and a Celebration of his Life will be held at the Fairfield Community Center on April 17th 2011 from 2 to 4 pm.
