Obituary of Robert L. Conlogue

PALERMO -- Robert L. Conlogue, 68, died peacefully Thursday, April 14, 2011, at his home in Palermo. He was born in Portland on Nov. 23, 1942, to Bernard L. Conlogue and Fran (Gerrish) Haskell. Bob was a 1960 graduate of Houlton High School and served honorably in the Navy. He married Dorothy Burke in October 1965 in Hartford, Conn. They enjoyed their path through life together for 45 years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing and sharing his love and stories of the outdoors with his grandchildren, who call him "Bampa." Many friends referred to him as "Delta Bob" because of the five years he spent driving a wheelchair van for Delta Ambulance. He dedicated 30 years to Scott Paper as a hydro switchboard operator. Bob enjoyed spending many hours researching his family tree, which included a trip to Ireland with Dot and some of the children. While there, he was told he had no need to kiss the Blarney Stone, as he already had the gift of gab. He talked his way around Ireland and much of the United States, including Alaska and most recently, Montana and Utah. Bob is survived by his wife, Dorothy M. (Burke) Conlogue of Palermo; four children, Jeffrey Conlogue, his wife Stacey and their four children, Brenden, Aly, Haylee and Daniel of Franklin, W.Va.; Laura Frost and her two children, Brooke and Tyler of Monmouth; Matthew Conlogue, his girlfriend Michael Macleod and three children, Bridget, Dominic and Robbie of Palermo; Jennifer Philbrick, her husband, Christopher, and their three children, Aaron, Kristian and James of Unity. He also leaves his four sisters: Judy Gilbert and companion Bill Munson of Palermo, Jane Riggs and husband David of Readfield, Pat Dyer and husband Donny of Albion and Kathy Archer of Palermo; two great-grandchildren, Jason and Max McKenlogue, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law through marriage. He also leaves behind his close friends, David and Shirley Bagley of Albion, having spent much time at the Bagley camp at Moosehead. Those who desire may make donations to: The Maine Children's Home for Little Wanderers, Attn: Development Department, 93 Silver St., Waterville, ME 04901. A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Tuesday, April 19, at 1 p.m. at the Palermo Christian Church, 322 Branch Mills Road, Palermo, officiated by pastor Ed Hatch. A gathering for his loved ones will be held at the church hall following the service. Condolences may be sent to Direct Cremation of Maine at www.directcremationofmaine.com.
