Obituary of Eleanor Flipse Avener
Eleanor (Flipse) Avener died on June 24, 2011. She was the daughter of the late Marinus and Marie (Vliet-Vlieland) Flipse. She was born on a farm in North Haledon, NJ. She maintained a lifelong love for and connection to the land and the natural world. She loved to fish, to raise her garden and especially to cut wood. She always kept her kitchen stove going with her bucksaw. She was a registered nurse, having returned to school in her mid thirties and graduating at the top of her class. She did greenhouse work for many years, was a nurse at Waldo County General Hospital, raked blueberries, worked at the Maplewood egg plant and for CB Manufacturing, both in Belmont. She was never an idle woman. She had a deep love for the State and the good people of Maine where she had lived since 1972.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, John, and sons, Daniel of Belfast and William of Highland Mills, NY, grandchildren Catherine of Aptos, CA, Margaret of Philadelphia, PA, Richard of Howells, NY and Emily of Philadelphia, PA and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a special friend, Tom Seymour and her beloved dog Annie. She was predeceased by her parents, three sisters, Marie Conklin, Jacoba Scialla, and Ann Warner and three brothers, Gerard, Peter and Marinus.
