Obituary of Brian Anthony Maresh

Please share a memory of Brian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Brian Anthony Maresh, 23, of Belmont, left this life way too soon in Belmont on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2011. Brian was born on September 3, 1987 in Belfast, the much-loved son of Robert V. Maresh, Jr. and Teresa M. Murphy. Brian attended local schools, Waldo Regional Vocational School, majoring in Horticulture, took art classes, attended BCOPE, and graduated from Belfast Area High School in 2006. When Brian was young, his mother encouraged him to at least write his name as he was soon to be starting school. He finally picked up a pencil, covering a page with scribbling. His mother asked him what it was, to which he replied, “That’s a hurricane!” That described much of Brian’s life. Brian was a free spirit, marching to the beat of his own drum. From the time he was born, he loved people, life, and telling tall, tall tales. He was known for his quick wit and his infectious smile. Several hundred friends and correspondents on Facebook are a testimony to the effect that he had on all he met. Brian enjoyed working at Green Arrow Farms in East Searsmont in the Hydroponic Greenhouse. He also worked doing roofing and carpentry. A candlelight vigil was held celebrating his life at the Camden Amphitheatre on Tuesday night with many relating their friendship with Brian. One of his friends told Brian’s mother, “I’m so sorry. He was one of the most original artists and energetic persons that I ever knew.” Brian is survived by his father, Robert V. Maresh, Jr. and Corinne Rome of Belmont; his mother Teresa Murphy of Camden; his brother and sister, Daniel P. Maresh and Veronica ‘Roni’ Maresh, both of Belmont; grandparents, Robert and Isabel Maresh of Belmont; Edna and her husband, Stanley Blood of Belfast; and Robert Murphy of Jackson; uncles, Anthony Maresh of Montville, Patrick Maresh of Belmont, Peter Maresh of Searsmont, Robert Murphy, Jr. of Portland, Michael and Glenice Murphy of Brooks; aunts and their husbands, Julie and Joseph Briggs of Prospect with whom he had lived for the past year, Shirlee and Steve McMann of Jefferson, NH, Betty Maresh and Thomas Whitney of Lancaster, NH, Angela and Jon Gradie of South Portland, Valerie and Roger Martin of Frankfort, Catherine and Alfred Reynolds of Morrill. Brian is survived by numerous cousins from both sides of his family who all love and miss him. There will be a celebration of Brian Anthony Maresh’s life, to be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 14 at the Belmont Community Building at the corner of Back Belmont and Lincolnville roads in Belmont, also known as the Town Office building. Brian passed away on Aug. 3, aged 23 years. Due to insurance and fire codes, there will be no alcohol allowed. For more information contact either grandmother, Edna at 339-4771 or Isabel at 342-5208. Some of Brian’s remains will be scattered to the winds that carried him through life, with the remainder being buried in Blacksheep Corner Cemetery in Belmont. Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation of Massachusetts, RI, NH and Maine, 540 Gallivan Blvd #200, Boston, MA 02124-5400.
