Obituary of Averell Robie Robinson
Averell (Robie) Robinson, 85, passed away peacefully August 4, 2011, at the Gosnell Memorial
Hospice in Scarborough, Maine surrounded by his loving family. Robie was born in Warren, Me
on January 5, 1926 to the late Vera Moore & Harold Robinson. He graduated from Thomaston
High School in 1944 and quickly joined the U.S. Navy where he served as a gunner’s mate on the
Liberty ship’s SS Idaho & SS Henry Lee. He received an honorable discharge in December of
1947 and returned to Thomaston where he met the love of his life Virginia Smith. They were
married on August 29, 1951 and were blessed with their son James on December 1958. Robie
loved to hunt and would often take his dog Andy and head out rabbit hunting. Robie worked at
the Martin Marietta Cement plant in Thomaston and retired after 34 years. He then enjoyed life
with Ginny as they decided to do some traveling. They would go to Florida and Arizona for a few
winters as well as Australia, Fuji and Hawaii. He was a long time Volunteer with Mid-Coast
Volunteers where he would transport patients to there doctor’s appointment’s through out Mid-
Coast and Southern Maine. He especially loved his Grandchildren, Grand-dogs and enjoyed
spending as much time as possible with them. Robie is survived by his loving wife of 60 years,
Virginia; his son James, wife Jan and there children Tyler and Caite of Gorham, Me.; and his
sister June Fleck of Rockland. Service will be held at the Thomaston Baptist Church Saturday
August 13 at 11:00, followed by a private burial and a gathering at the church to celebrate
